MÉTAL ROUGE is essentially: Helga Fassonaki: amplified santur and setar, Andrew Scott: electric guitar. Sometimes augmented by: percussion, bells, effects, contact mics, radios, vocals. The desired effect is one of ecstatic stasis - a metallic mass of inexact tonal centres w/ the forward motion of ecstatic jazz yet drugged, struggling, horizontal. Co-ordinate points: all psychedelic musics, 'out' jazz , NYC loft minimalism circa '66 - An impossible state of static acceleration/accelerated stasis. Friction without struggle. Massed string harmonics, reaching pendulously - sharp smoke unfurling in a web of total mudphonics.
